Sorry, but this isn't a one-season blip. Did you see us play at home to Everton and Crystal Palace in October of LAST SEASON? That standard of performance has become the norm. This isn't a one-off, but a decline that has accelerated over the past eight months. As for loyalty, don't you think we've given Steve Bruce enough of that already? It's why many people laid off him LAST season when we were flirting with relegation. People claim we anti-Bruce brigade have a short memory for forgetting who got us promoted, but at least our memory isn't so short that we don't recall winning just two of our opening SIXTEEN matches in 2004-5, never mind this season. Bruce has been rightly criticised for 18 months now about signing crocks, playing people out of position, always accomodating his favourites in the team and using the same old excuses week in week out. By his own admission, every other performance is now called "the worst since I've been here", which suggests to me that hoping things will miraculously pick up in the summer while the current status quo rules is delusional at best. |

I understand your point. But there are lots of examples of managers achieving short term success and then being 'found out'. Graham Taylor for example. The pre-verbial 'one trick pony'. These type of managers have one fixed philosophy of how the game should be played. They stick doggedly to this one method even when it brings consistent failure. They believe that because it worked before it will work again when their 'luck' changes. Good managers continuously learn and ADAPT. The ability to learn and adapt is the thing that brings long term success. I've lost count of the number of times that Bruce has said 'at times like this you have to stick with what you believe in'. FFS why would you stick to something that brings constant failure culminating in a 7 - 0 drubbing? Because you are blinkered, closed minded and pig-headed Mr Bruce. Your 'luck' is not going to change - YOU have to! |

Many interesting points on here. If only the players had shown the same passion on the pitch we might be further up the league now and not in a relegation position. It’s interesting that no one has criticised SB for squandering millions as the fact is he has had hardly any money to spend. I’m not saying he is the man for the job and whatever my view someone else will decide that at the end of the season. Starting the season buying the players you had on loan and a couple of loan signing was never going to be enough. Then in the transfer window buying a player who was playing non league football 12 months ago, adding someone who had been injured for most of the season and a young lad from a foreign country was never going to be enough. Who ever we would have had as manager would have only just avoided relegation at best. The sad thing is that once again the fans had far greater expectations than the manager and the owners. The only big about the club has been its fans. Successive owners, managers and players have always flattered to deceive and come up short when it has really mattered. |
